Eating Animals Review
I received a copy of a book that came out today to review! It is EATING ANIMALS by Jonathan Safran Foer.
"Brilliantly synthesizing philosophy, literature, science, memoir and his own detective work, Eating Animals explores the many fictions we use to justify our eating habits-from folklore to pop culture to family traditions and national myth-and how such tales can lull us into a brutal forgetting."
Jonathan has been wavering on being a vegetarian for most of his life. However, once his son was born he decided it was time to do some research on the animals we eat. Johnathan Safran Foer shares his adventures of this research in his new book, Eating Animals. I love how every chapter begins with an interesting fact, like "Americans choose to eat less than .01% of the known edible food on the planet." I also like that Johnathan includes stories from other people who are involved with different aspects of animals and eating them, from a Vegetarian Rancher to a Factory Farmer. He tries to give the reader every side of the story.
Since doing his research Johnathan has become a vegetarian. The book did not persuade me to be one, but I found the book to be a very thought-provoking in-depth story. I really liked how he challenged what we normally think about animals, like man's best friend. It is a good read that makes you think!
