Nature's Gate Moisture Liquid Soap Giveaway

Nature's Gate Logo

I'm happy to bring Laughing Lindsay readers a review and giveaway from Nature's Gate! "Nature's Gate is a company dedicated to developing personal care products based upon botanical remedies. Our philosophy is derived from combining decades-old wisdom rich in botanical, herbal and floral treatments with modern ingredients and formulations. We bring our 30 year legacy of health and beauty expertise to you with a range of products that address personal care needs from the inside out. We are proud to bring you, the consumer, the highest level of integrity and value. Using all-natural herbs and pH-balanced formulas, each product is carefully formulated to deliver the many benefits of each unique botanical blend. All of our products reflect ongoing efforts to preserve the earths natural resources by being environmentally friendly and cruelty-free."

Nature's Gate Herbal Lotion

I received the Herbal Moisturizing Lotion for All Skin Types. It "provides instant moisture, leaving skin feeling pampered and smooth. A unique blend of natural emollients and soothing botanicals bring comfort and nourishment to dry skin. Avocado and Jojoba Oils along with Aloe Vera, Cucumber and Ivy help hydrate and provide natural fortification against the drying elements of the environment. This lotion is ideal for everyday use to help maintain supple, silky-soft skin."

I liked this lotion because it left my skin feeling really soft. It smelled ok, too. However, the pump got broken during shipment. So, I had to be careful when using it and try not to spill it. It is a very nice lotion.

I also got the Oatmeal Velvet Moisture Liquid Soap!, which "was developed to gently and effectively remove dirt while delivering nourishing hydration so hands are never left tight or dry, even after frequent washing. Oatmeal and Calendula are combined with our exclusive blend of 7 Natural Moisture Boosters to deliver deep soothing moisture while creating a rich, creamy lather. Delivers great value, dispensing 250+ pumps (washes) per bottle. Ideal for sensitive skin."

Nature's Gate Oatmeal Soap

I really like this soap. It smells nice and it feels wonderful! You can actually tell from the consistency of the soap that it's moisturizing! It's not your typical liquid soap. It's not watery like most. It's actually pretty thick for a soap. It left my hands feeling great! My hand didn't feel dry or tight after usage. It's a very good soap!

Carolina Pad Spring Break Road Trip Giveaway

Carolina Pad Road Trip

What are you doing for spring break 2010? Do you want to take a “Road Trip” with Carolina Pad? I'm excited to introduce you to the first collection from their new Studio C brand – Road Trip. It’s hip, trendy and cool – sure to be a hit with everyone! I received a lovely pack from Carolina Pad containing these products (which are pictured above):

· 2 Road Trip spiral-less notebooks

· 2 Road Trip personal notebooks

· 2 Road Trip two-pocket folders

I actually received my pack from Carolina Pad during the week of my spring break! I really like these products! They have a really fun and young design! I'm a fan of butterflies, so this design is great. I also like that it comes in 2 different background colors!

I like the spiral-less notebooks because the ends of the spirals tend to get caught on things. This also keeps me from having little bits of paper sticking out of the spiral. I also like the personal notebooks because they are the perfect size for me to make all of my wonderful lists! They are so cute! The two-pocket folders are also handy for an education major because I have to keep up with so many papers!

WIN! THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED!

Carolina Pad is offering one reader a Road Trip pack of their own!

To enter: Go to Carolina Pad and tell me which other product you would most like to own.

Cute Flip-Flops 4 a Cause

Clips 4 A Cure

When I found the great company called Clips 4 A Cure, I had to do a review for them! They sell adorable hats, bows, hair clips, and flip-flops! The thing I like most is that 20% of all profits goes to the American Cancer Society! I really like that because my grandmother is a breast cancer survivor!

I was sent 2 hair bows/clips! The picture above shows one of them in my hair! I really like this one because of the way it just clips into my hair! I got this one and a pink one! They are so cute! I put this red one in my hair as soon as I opened the package and wore it all night! I really like them!

Now, you need to see how adorable their flip-flops are! I was sent a pair of flip-flops that have bows that you can change out! They sent me a pink pair and a purple pair! Here is the purple ones on one of my feet!

Cute Flip-Flops

I think they are awesome. I must admit, the flip-flops seem to run a bit bigger than I'm used to. However, my usual size 10 fits pretty good. They are just a little bit longer. Other than that, they are great. They are also really comfortable! They are the perfect thing for the warmer weather.

Check out Clips 4 A Cure, just in time for spring!

Delicious Nature's Path Granola Bars

Nature's Path Granola Bars

You may recall that I have previously tried and reviewed some lovely breakfast products from Nature's Path. So, when I was offered the chance to review something else from them, I was very excited. I received 2 boxes of their new granola bar line!

Nature’s Path just launched a new granola bar line! They have new bars which include revamped old favorites and 2 delicious new flavors – Mmmaple Pecan and Berry Strawberry. The expanded bar line includes new two Flax Plus flavors which are excellent sources of Omega-3’s: Mmmaple Pecan – made with organic maple syrup, crunchy pecans and a drizzle of sweet, creamy icing and Berry Strawberry – a mix of organic strawberries and raspberries, topped off with just the right amount of real, creamy yogurt, along with Lotta Apricotta – chock full of dried apricots, roasted almonds and drizzled with real yogurt icing and Sunny Hemp – a blend of hempseed, flaxseed and sunflower seeds with juicy raisins.

Other flavorful options include:
• Peanut Buddy – peanut butter and whole roasted peanuts for a chewy bar with crunch.
• Peanut Choco – two of our favorite flavors, crunchy peanuts drizzled with dark chocolate.
• Chococonut – the perfect combination of dark chocolate chips and a hint of sweet, buttery, nutty coconut.
• Pumpkin-n-Spice – mineral-rich roasted pumpkin seeds and Omega-3 rich flaxseeds with a dash of cinnamon.

I received the 2 new flavors! I wasn't really sure what to expect with these granola bars because granola bars are sometimes very dry and tasteless. I first tried the Berry Strawberry because I love strawberries. I figured this one would be favorite. I must say it was very good! It's not dry and it tastes really good! I like the strawberry flavor and you can actually tell it has the real yogurt on it! This is a really good combination!

Next, I tried the Mmmaple Pecan. This one ended up being my favorite! It tastes so yummy! I like that it manages to taste sweet while being a granola bar. I was also pleased with the texture. It's not your average granola bar!

These bars are a smarter way to satisfy you sweet tooth! The granola bars are good for you and manage to taste good too!

Well, it seems to finally be getting warmer! This means that we can wear cute shorts, dresses, and capris! Plus, I can bring out my favorite flip-flops! Yay! One of my favorite places to shop for clothing is Aeropostale. They carry this adorable dress pictured! I think it looks cute!

I'm a HUGE fan of their comfy hoodies! I've been wearing them for years! They always have the prettiest colors for hoodies! Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk Review and Giveaway

Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk

I don't about you, but I love chocolate milk. I recently tried some Horizon Organic Lowfat Chocolate Milk. This milk is really good for you. It has DHA Omega-3, which provides a great tasting and easy way to add calcium and DHA to your family’s diet. DHA Omega-3 is an important nutrient that helps support heart, brain and eye health, and it’s available in lowfat half gallons.

DHA belongs to a category of healthy fatty acids known as Omega-3's. Found in high concentrations in the tissues of the brain and eye, DHA Omega-3 is thought to help support healthy function in these areas. DHA has also been shown to help support heart health.

I had never had organic milk before and I wasn't sure how it would taste. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The chocolate milk still has a really good taste to it! It tastes like regular chocolate milk, to me! I really like that it tastes so good and it's better for me!

I must admit that I had a little trouble finding the chocolate milk. I would highly recommend using the Horizon Dairy's store locator. I found out that the chocolate milk is only available at Kroger near me. I don't really live that close to a Kroger (I mean it's not far away, but there are many grocery stores between me and a Kroger) and I had never been in one. FYI: this milk is found in their organic or whatever they call it section of the store (not the dairy/milk section). :) I will say that it is worth finding!

WIN! THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED!

Horizon Dairy is offering 2 readers 4 total coupons (2 coupons would be for a free half gallon of the Horizon Organic lowfat Chocolate Milk with DHA Omega-3 and 2 coupons for $1 off a half gallon of the same milk) each!

To enter: Go to Horizon Dairy and tell me what your favorite product is.

(Make sure your email address is in the comment or is easily accessible via your blog profile or blog itself. I need to be able to contact you!)

This entry is mandatory, if you do not do #1, you cannot do the "extra" entries. Comments like "enter me" will not be eligible!

Money Savvy Pig piggy bank Review

Money Savvy Piggy Bank

"One slot piggy banks have been around for....centuries. But the world has changed. Now we have a highly sophisticated financial system, a system whose complexity has outstripped the ability of most adults, many of whom grapple with credit card debt, even bankruptcy.

Personal finance education needs to start young. How? With the same universally loved childhood toy, the piggy bank....but with a 21st century twist! The Money Savvy Pig piggy bank has four chambers, one for each of the four money management choices a child should be taught from the time they are small. They are SAVE, SPEND, DONATE, and INVEST."

I received a Money Savvy Pig a long time ago (longer than I'm willing to admit) and have been meaning to review it. I think it's a great idea! Depending on what grade I end up teaching, I think this could be used in my classroom to teach kids about money and how to save. It could also work for a token system economy for classroom management.

I like how it introduces kids to the ideas of investing and donating. I wish I could donate more. I've never really invested in anything. However, in this economy, I feel that it's a good idea to make kids aware of both.

I love how the pig comes in multiple colors! This can make children more interested, if you get them one in their favorite color. I just think this a great idea!

Charla Krupp has done more than 100 style segments on The Today Show and she has appeared on Good Morning America, Oprah, The View, Dateline NBC, and has been a regular on The E! The new groundbreaking style-guide from bestseller author Charla Krupp on how to look 10 pounds lighter, 10 years younger and 10 times sexier every day, all year--in summer, winter, at the gym, even in a swimsuit!

I was very excited to receive this book to review! I especially enjoyed the chapter on "Buddha belly" since almost all women get a belly at some point in time. I also liked the tips for dealing with back fat and muffin top. I think there's a chapter for every woman's needs. There is even a chapter about having a wide face!

I liked learning which fabrics, colors, and styles make women look fat. Charla also tells you the absolute best shades, shapes, and brilliant buys to make the pounds invisible. She even included sections on workout gear and swimwear! This is a great book for any women who has ever wondered how to look less fat (which is almost every woman).

The LOFT Spring Style Event

Loft Spring Style Event

One of the perks of being a Lucky Alpha Shopper is that I was invited to attend Ann Taylor Loft's Spring Style Event at my nearest Loft! So, my mother and I went to the Loft, for the first time, and had a great time! During their Spring Style Event, there was good deals and free refreshments. The refreshments were really nice! They had Cheryl & Co. cookies and brownies! YUMMY! They also had bottled water!

The Loft had a 30% off all regular priced items that day and this made for some great deals! I had been given a gift card for The Loft and managed to get 4 shirts for $50! I got two t-shirts in beautiful colors that were originally 2 for $25, but got them 30% off! I also got 2 wonderful shirts from the clearance section! As I was browsing through the great clothes, one customer said to me "Such great prices; I can't decide what to do." I kid you not. I didn't know her, but it was obvious that everyone was having a good time and enjoying the deals.

I must say that I really like some of the Loft's clothing. It's fashionable, but not revealing. Their clothes are perfect for teachers and observing! The LOFT even has a LOFT loves teachers program to give teachers a discount on their purchases! I think I found a store that I'll be returning to in the future!

World Kidney Day - Spreading the Word

As you may know, I don't usually post things that don't involve a product review or giveaway. However, I have decided to post something today that is neither one of those things. It is about something that is very dear to me, World Kidney Day. Today, March 11, is World Kidney Day! March is also National Kidney Month!

My dad was on dialysis for many years and actually received a kidney transplant 2 years ago. That is why I want to share with my readers this short little video from NBC and make readers more aware of their kidneys.

From the World Kidney Day website, I want to share with you the 7 Golden Rules or several easy ways to reduce the risk of developing these kidney disease.

1. Keeping fit and active.

2. Keep regular control of your blood sugar level

3. Monitor your blood pressure

4. Eat healthy and keep your weight in check

5. Do not smoke

6. Do not take over-the-counter pills on a regular basis

7. Check your kidney function if you have one or more of the 'high risk' factors

Feel free to test your knowledge about kidneys. I scored a 92% on the test; I missed one question! I didn't know how many liters of blood the kidneys filter every day (I guess I should have watched the video first).

You can also take the Kidney Quiz from the National Kidney Foundation for a chance to win a book! It has some of the same questions as the quiz above, but it also has some different ones.

Grab A Cup Award from One 2 Try

Grab a cup award

I'm very surprised and happy to receive another blog award! However, this is a different type of a blog award. Rita from One 2 Try created her own blog award to give blogs that make her "want to Grab a Cup to Stay for a Spell." She says "It is for those blogs that I find myself wanting to read and read and read. For those blogs that I love the writing, the stories, the pictures and everything else going on with it. You make me want to Grab A Cup and enjoy the whole cup while reading your blog! You make me want to Stay for a Spell!"

After receiving several blog awards, including one from me, Rita created the Grab A Cup Award. She created it because she didn't like the pressure of having to pass on an award, which I totally understand. This award doesn't have any rules, making it a very special award to receive.

She has since given this great award to Laughing Lindsay. Thank you so much Rita! I love your blog and am very flattered by this! I can't believe that you gave it to me. I mean I've been reading and admiring your blog for sometime now and this is a true surprise. Thank you so much!

The Memory Thief by Rachel Keener Review

The Memory Thief book

As you may have noticed, I haven't posted a book review this semester yet. That's because I'm currently enrolled in two reading intensive course - Politics of the US and Literature for Children and Young Adults. I've been meaning to post this review for sometime now... Sorry for the delay! I'm glad for my first review of the semester to be about a book with a storyline that takes place in my part of the country!

Brilliant young novelist Rachel Keener interweaves the coming-of-age stories of two young women, each on a twisting journey from very different but equally troubling pasts that will lead to a shared future. "When Angel sets fire to her childhood home, it isn't the end--it's the beginning. Left with nothing but a few memories in her pocket, Angel escapes into the fields of tobacco, the only place she has ever felt safe. Hidden by those green-gold leaves, she sets her eyes on the mountains and believes someone waits for her there. Angel will do whatever she has to until she finds her. She longs to empty her pockets, hand over the answers to what became of her, and whisper, This is my story.

As Angel journeys toward the mountains, Hannah is struggling to tell her own story. The daughter of missionaries who follow the rules of a small and strict religious sect, modesty is prized above all else. Wearing floor length polyester skirts, and never cutting her hair, Hannah is forced to live a separate life from her peers. Until the summer her family moves to James Island, South Carolina. Slowly, Hannah begins to escape the confines of her strict upbringing, and soon makes a choice that will forever change the course of her life.

As these two women's paths connect, Hannah's past will prove to mean everything to Angel's future."

While reading this book, I felt for both characters. I tried to imagine what I would have done, if I had been either one of them. Rachel Keener makes both of them relatable. I found myself trying to figure out how the two characters were going to come together because they seemed to have nothing in common. I won't ruin the dramatic ending by telling you, but I loved it! I really enjoyed this book's creative storyline and the characters. I also liked the setting - the south.

I also liked that it contains a Reading Group Guide. It makes the reader really consider the plot and think about things. The Memory Thief comes out 3/12/10 and I would recommend it!

I got a chance to get 3 products from Sweetly You to try. I got the body lotion in Warm Apple Pie, the spray lotion in Buttercream, and travel perfume in Creamy Vanilla! All 3 smell delicious! My favorite scent is the Warm Apple Pie! It smells so yummy! One night I put the Warm Apple Pie on arms and sprayed my legs with the Buttercream! The combination of scents reminded me of a piece of warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream. It was so delicious! I also liked the spray lotion because it is easy to apply!

Warm Apple Pie

The Creamy Vanilla travel perfume is good for when I just want to smell good, but don't want to apply lotion. It smells really good too! Check out the full list of delicious scents that Sweetly You carries! I had a really hard time picking just 3. I bet the Sugar Cookie and New Romance smell great too!

Misikko Hair Straightner Review and Giveaway

Misikko Button

I have had a hard time finding good hair straighteners that don't hurt or damage my hair. However, Misikko has a wide selection of Chi flat irons and Babyliss flat irons among other brands.

I was sent a Hana Professional Flat Iron 1’’ – Pink Edition to review! Now, I don't normally post pictures of packaging, but I was really impressed. The picture above is how I received my flat iron! It came with some beautiful fake flowers, hand sanitizer, nail files and more! I was really excited to see that it came with a travel pouch, heat proof silicone mat, tin case, and a heat proof pouch! This means you can lay the iron on the silicone mat or place in the heat proof pouch while it's still warm! Yay!

After seeing what all I got I was really pumped to try the best flat iron! I was really impressed with the results! You can see for yourself!

Here is my hair before:

Hair before Misikko Straightner

And here I am after I used the flat iron:

Hair after Misikko Flat Iron

Doesn't my hair look much better? I liked how the flat iron didn't pull my hair and it works for damp styling! It didn't take me long at all to straighten my hair either! I was also pleased with quickness of heating up; you actually adjust the heat setting by temperature! I really like this flat iron and am really impressed with the company Misikko!

The Hana Professional Pink Flat Iron is a great flat iron; it even comes with a 2 year guarantee! I love it! It doesn't hurt that it's pink either!

UGLee Pen Review

UGLee Pen

When I write I tend to grip my writing utensil fairly tight. That's why I always use pencil with grippers. Then, I found a comfort pen that has a great gripper! It's the first ergonomic pen! It's called a UGLee Pen!

It was designed by Dr. James Lee. "Dr. Lee received his BS in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University and his MD from Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Lee has done his share of writing throughout his academic and professional life. All of the writing required by medical school and physician training took its toll. After trying just about every pen and failing to find a truly comfortable one, Dr. Lee was determined to create his own. Known to even fire his own clay pens, Dr. Lee has experimented with just about every combination of shape, texture, material, and ink mixtures in search of the optimum combination for the "Perfect Pen.""

Comfortable Pen

This pen has a full size grip which is great for taking lots of notes in class! I love how I don't have to keep my hand in just one small space to get full use of the grip! I also like the grip itself. It's soft and squishy; if that makes any sense. I also think it's fun to squeeze and play with when one is stressed (like when studying for a mid-term). I also liked the ink; it was smooth and a darker black than some inks.

You can also buy replacement ink for the pens in black, red, or blue! The pens come in an assortment of colors. The UGLee Pen is great for students and anybody who likes grippers!

eShakti Review and Giveaway

eShakti Logo border=

I was fortunate enough to be contacted by eShakti to review something! They have sooo many nice things! Everything looks great and is really stylish! I finally picked the dress above! Isn’t it gorgeous? I love it! Every girl needs a nice black dress! I picked this one because it is more conservative and I could wear it when I go into a school, if I need to.

My only complaint is the side zipper... I should have gotten it changed when ordering it. One of the wonderful things about eShakti is that you can custom order the clothes! You can actually give them your measurements and everything! I got my dress a little big, but I figure it’ll fit for a while now! This dress is great! Now, if only it would warm up enough for me to actually wear it!

eShakti Woman Contest

I'm excited to tell you about eShakti's Giveaway! You can win a $250 gift certificate or one of 25 gift certificates worth $50!

All you have do to is fill out the form and tell them:

1. In 25 words or less, tell them who is the eShakti Woman.
2. Pick 3 items you feel best represent eShakti and say why you picked them.

EVERY entrant gets a $10 gift certificate!

Also, if you tell them you came from Laughing Lindsay I am entered in a separate contest for bloggers. The top 3 blogs with the most entrants win a fabulous prize!

Hurry! Giveaway ends March 31 at 12 midnight PST!

Disclaimer: I received a free dress for this review. I'm also entered into a contest for posting the contest. No other compensation was received. The opinions expressed are my own.
