World Kidney Day - Spreading the Word

As you may know, I don't usually post things that don't involve a product review or giveaway. However, I have decided to post something today that is neither one of those things. It is about something that is very dear to me, World Kidney Day. Today, March 11, is World Kidney Day! March is also National Kidney Month!

My dad was on dialysis for many years and actually received a kidney transplant 2 years ago. That is why I want to share with my readers this short little video from NBC and make readers more aware of their kidneys.

From the World Kidney Day website, I want to share with you the 7 Golden Rules or several easy ways to reduce the risk of developing these kidney disease.

1. Keeping fit and active.

2. Keep regular control of your blood sugar level

3. Monitor your blood pressure

4. Eat healthy and keep your weight in check

5. Do not smoke

6. Do not take over-the-counter pills on a regular basis

7. Check your kidney function if you have one or more of the 'high risk' factors

Feel free to test your knowledge about kidneys. I scored a 92% on the test; I missed one question! I didn't know how many liters of blood the kidneys filter every day (I guess I should have watched the video first).

You can also take the Kidney Quiz from the National Kidney Foundation for a chance to win a book! It has some of the same questions as the quiz above, but it also has some different ones.

Disclaimer: No compensation was received for this post. The opinions expressed are my own.
